ERC 2021 Starting Grant Call Opens on UKRI Guarantee Funding System

UKRI has opened the application system for successful UK-based applicants to the 2021 European Research Council (ERC) Starting Grant call as part of the UK Horizon Europe guarantee.

Detailed instructions on how to use the Joint electronic System (Je-S) is now available. Click here to access Je-S.

The currency conversion tool is also available.

More information on the UK guarantee can be found in the UKRI Horizon Europe guarantee guidance, which was last updated on 14 March 2022 following the  announcement of the extension to the scope of the guarantee to cover a second wave of eligible successful applicants.

The guarantee funding is delivered through UKRI and grants will be subject to the standard UKRI EC grant terms and conditions, with some additional grant conditions added for this call.

If you are working on a European Research Council Advanced Grant proposal you are on the home stretch towards the deadline on 28 April 2022. Don’t forget you can access recordings and slides from these webinars on the UKRO Portal to complement the ERC’s guidance documents

We hold events a few months before each ERC deadline to help applicants to write the right kind of proposal to impress expert panels. These events are currently streamed online, and available on our website to watch again, for free with live Q&A and successful grantees sharing their insight and experience.

For main ERC grants, there are two types of reporting, financial and scientific reporting that are captured periodically - at the end of each reporting period - or continuously.

Two scientific reports must be submitted: a mid-term report (month 30) and a final report (month 60). Both cover a technical update on scientific progress and specific outputs. More information can be found in the ERC Scientific Reporting Guidelines.
